Fender
amplifiers are manufactured by the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.
They also produce stringed instruments. The company was previously known
as the Fender Electric Instrument Manufacturing Company. They were originally
founded in Fullerton, California in 1946. Today, their headquarters
are located in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The first Leo Fender amplifiers were produced in 1945. These were sold
as part of a Hawaiian lap steel guitar set with the help of one Clayton
Orr "Doc" Kauffman. At this time, Leo Fender was working with
Kauffman, together making the K & F Manufacturing Corp. However,
Mr. Fender decided to focus on manufacturing as opposed to repairs.
For that reason, he and Kauffman when their separate ways and the Fender
Electric Instrument Company was began.
Fender amplifiers were first manufactured under this company in 1978.
At this time, they were covered with the same cloth that was used for
luggage. For this reason, they were known as "tweed amps."
