Not all drum sticks are the same. There are many different designs, and each has its own unique characteristics. Furthermore, each manufacturer adds their own take on each of these designs, making them even more varied.

One of the most important aspects of quality drum sticks is straightness. Most drummers recommend rolling the sticks on a flat surface to make sure there is not “wobble”. Warped drum sticks can affect technique and alter a drummer’s performance.

The style of music being played is important to remember when choose a set of drum sticks. Sticks made for hard, heavy rock n’ roll tend to be much thicker and heavier than those made for jazz. The weight and balance of the stick can affect the overall sound of the drums.
