Quality
bass amplifiers are a must for any working bass player. The right size
amp depends greatly on the size of the venues you will be playing, and
how much money you want to spend of course. For most small clubs, a
quality head matched to a good 4X10 speaker cabinet will usually do
the trick.
Bass amplifiers usually come in two basic designs; tube and solid-state.
Tube amps tend to produce a warmer tone than does a solid-state version.
However, tube amps can be temperamental and expensive so many people
choose to stick with a good solid-state amplifier.
High quality bass amplifiers can sometimes be found at bargain prices,
provided you know where to look. Most experts would agree that a used,
quality bass amp is a much better deal than a new, cheap amp. Many stores
will offer good deals on used and “last year’s” models.
Good amps can often be found through your local paper’s classified
section as well.
