Bongos
The evolution of the Bongo drum can be traced from Africa to Cuba, where it became an important and recognized instrument in Cuban music and dance. Bongo drum bodies are typically made of wood, metal, or some type of composite material; but ceramic and other materials may also be found in the construction of these widely used percussion instruments. Bongos typically utilize various animal skins or synthetic materials for drum heads and metal bolts for tuning. Fixed (un-tunable) heads which are tacked-on to the drum can also be found. These can be “tuned” to some degree by tensioning the head with moisture and heat.
